- The Oval & its’ curator only permit certain types of BYO chairs. Anything that directly stakes into the ground or is deemed damaging to the ground may be confiscated upon entry.
- No pets permitted.
- North Sydney Oval is a non-smoking & vaping venue.
General
Gates open at 6:30PM. The film starts at last light, you can check out when the sun sets HERE. As we are an outdoor cinema we need it to be dark for the film to be visible on the screen.

Mar – Approx 8:00-8:10PM
Absolutely! Sunset Cinema is the perfect place to enjoy a family night out or entertain the kids for a few hours. Please be aware that we sometimes show films classified MA15+ (for the adults) which require children under 15 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian & R18+ films which require all patrons to be 18+.
To fully enjoy your Sunset Cinema experience, we suggest the following things:
– Layering up or bringing a blanket for those chillier summer nights.
– Insect repellent to keep those mozzies away!
– If you are in the Cricket Lawn area and haven’t hired any seating then you are more than welcome to bring you own rugs, pillows, lawn chairs ect. Just be aware that taller chairs will be restricted to the back of the grounds so that everyone can see the screen. If you are in the Grandstand area, you can bring pillows and blankets. Also please note that some chairs are restricted – nothing with a pointy leg that can penetrate the grass will be allowed entry into the Oval.
– If it looks like it’s going to rain then a poncho is recommended as we will only cancel the session if the weather becomes heavy and dangerous. We will also have a limited amount of blankets available on-site for purchase. No open umbrellas are allowed during the screening.
– Friends, Family or Dates; Sunset Cinema is best enjoyed with others!
We love to see your snaps at Sunset Cinema. You can share them on Instagram with us by tagging @thesunsetcinema and using #imasunsetter & #sunsetcinema so we can see & repost them. However, we request that no professional recording equipment or flash photography is used during the film.
Ticketing
You can purchase your tickets online. Simply select your session from our PROGRAM and then your tickets. We do not have an on-site box office and all tickets must be purchased before you arrive.
Yes. Simply show your tickets displayed on your phone at the gate. Just make sure you have them ready before you reach the gate to avoid unnecessary queues.
No worries. Sometimes our confirmation emails get lost in your junk inbox, look for an email from tickets@sunsetcinema.com.au. You can also access your tickets by logging into your account HERE. Still can’t find your ticket? Email us at info@sunsetcinema.com.au
We understand that sometimes life can get in the way of a pre-planned night at Sunset Cinema. You can exchange your booking to another if you set up an account when you purchased your tickets. If you did then:
- Go to your Sunset Cinema ACCOUNT and login
- Click ‘list tickets’
- Select the tickets you would like to swap and select ‘exchange’
- Follow the prompts to choose another session.
There is a $1.50 exchange fee on all tickets (excl seating) plus any price difference. If you purchased during a sale then you will need to pay any price different for any new tickets you exchange to. Tickets cannot be exchanged for a transaction that is lesser value than the original. Tickets can only be exchanged up until 24hrs before the session time. Unfortunately tickets & seating are non-refundable.
You are sometimes able to exchange your tickets to another session. However, refunds are not available if you are no longer able to attend or change your mind.
General admission for children under 3 is free. They do not require any type of ticket for general admission. However, if you would like them to have a bean bag or entry to the Lawn Lounge then you will need to purchase these.
The Fever-Tree Lounge is the premium way to experience Sunset Cinema. Add a Fever-Tree Lounge upgrade to your general admission ticket and you will receive a reserved bean lounger, seating in a prime viewing area, a free Gin & Tonic OR Fever-Tree flavoured soda & bottomless popcorn.
We’d love for you to check out the Fever-Tree Lounge! If you already have a general admission tickets, then simply go back to the screening page that you are attending and select the Fever-Tree Lounge upgrade.
Our ticketing provider charges a $1.60 booking fee per admission ticket. If you decide to exchange your ticket then there is also a $1.50 exchange fee for tickets (excl seating).
We recognise most concession and carers cards. If you have a concession card; including full time student, senior and government issued pension/ health cards, then choose the concession ticket. If you have a carers card then you are entitled to 1 complimentary ticket, simply show your card at the box office to gain entry. To redeem a discount code or ticket voucher/complimentary pass (excluding Gift Cards) simply:
- Select your preferred screening
- Enter your unique Code and Validate
- Select your discounted or complimentary ticket and Add To Cart
- Follow to prompts to proceed to checkout and complete the transaction
Please check the terms and conditions of each voucher as they may differ.
Weather
We only cancel screenings in seriously foul weather where danger presents itself to our patrons and staff, such as thunder, extreme heat or even occasionally during a fire ban.
Our team has a lot of experience when it comes to weather. The event managers onsite are constantly checking the weather radar and the conditions at the location, which may differ from those at your home.
If you contact us, we will not be able to give you any more information if we have not announced the cancellation. It is best to wait for us to contact you. If you do not hear from us, the screening is going ahead.
If we cancel your screening we will:
- SMS the mobile number of the person who booked your ticket (hopefully they’ll share this with you if that wasn’t you).
- Put a CANCELLED message across the screening page on the website.
- Email the person who booked your ticket with instructions on how to exchange your tickets (see next FAQ)

Damn! We had to cancel the screening. You would have received a text message & email from us. The full value of your booking will be transferred to a voucher which is redeemable for screenings across all our locations this season (Summer 2025/26). Don’t worry, you won’t get charged an exchange fee for a cancelled session. If you have any questions or need a hand redeeming your voucher just reach out to us via info@sunsetcinema.com.au
Eat & Drink
No. Sunset Cinema is a fully licensed event with alcohol only available if purchased at our Snack Bar on-site.
There is a fantastic range of food and drinks available every screening night. Ranging from popcorn, sweets, non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks at our Snack Bar to hot meal options at one of our food vendors.

Sadly no. As much as we love our furry friends, we have restrictions set by our venues. We hope that in the future we can revisit this restriction.
Yes – although entry for wheelchairs is via the Ridge Street entry. This entry is not normally manned so please let us know you’re coming so we can have someone meet you at the entrance and assist you in. Shoot us an email at info@sunsetcinema.com.au and our Venue Manager will liaise with you to ensure your night is memorable for all the right reasons. Unfortunately, due to the technical requirements of outdoor cinema we are unable to offer any closed caption or audio descriptive screenings.
If you’re still on-site and can’t find something, report it to one of our staff and leave your details. If you have already left the cinema, send us an email at info@sunsetcinema.com.au and we will have our staff look for you.
Seating
We have a range of seating options available to hire online and sometimes at the venue. CLICK HERE to see the range. We recommend purchasing them early online as they often sell-out. Seating hire is only applicable to the Cricket Lawn tickets. The Grandstand area has unreserved bench seating for you to use.
Of course, picnic rugs, pillows and lawn chairs are welcome at Sunset Cinema. The Oval is sensitive so chairs that will directly stake or be deemed damaging to the ground may be confiscated upon entry.
We want you to be as comfy as possible but please be aware that if your seating is high and will restrict other’s viewing then we will ask that you sit towards the back or to one side of the audience area.
Groups
If you are looking at hosting a group of more than 100, please reach out to us at info@sunsetcinema.com.au
If you have a group of over 30, simply add 30 or more tickets to the cart and a 30% discount will automatically apply to your cart total. Discount applies to tickets only, does not include discount on add-ons/upgrades, vouchers, passes or ticket fees. Must be made in a single transaction, additional bookings under 30 tickets will be charged at full price.
Gift Cards
Gift cards can be used online for tickets , upgrades & seating, and onsite at the Sunset Snack Bar (not including hot food vendor).

- Sign up or login to our ticketing provider
- Enter your Gift Card code under ‘Gift Card Code’ in payment methods and click APPLY

All our Gift Cards are usable for the full period of the 2025 – 2026 Sunset Cinema season and expire at the end of the season. Please make sure you check the location’s exact screening dates as they differ at each location. Please be aware that any un-used amount cannot be refunded.
